What is Lifestyle Medicine?

Lifestyle medicine is the use of lifestyle changes to have a positive effect on health (i.e. physical, emotional, spiritual, mental).

Lifestyle changes included enhancing nutrition, exercise and sleep, reducing overall toxic load, taking steps to look after your mental health, becoming more social, setting time aside to rest and understanding your choices in terms of medical care.



How I Found Lifestyle Medicine


In 2014 while in the third year at university, I felt that I went from a thriving state to suddenly having panic attacks and a month later agoraphobia. I had no idea what a panic attack was and I did not have a clue how to stop them. They became completely debilitating and were very frightening.


Over the first week of having panic attacks, I began to understand that they were an effect of my chronic stress levels, but I did not know how to make it all go away. Up until then, I knew very little about how my body worked and how and why I should look after it. Since then I have gained knowledge on how my body works and how to look after myself through lifestyle changes. Overtime my chronic stress levels have reduced and I now have many tools to put in place when my mental health needs some extra support.



Around 2016 I then developed Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue which then forced me to do the process all over again, understand the cause and find solutions. If I was to rate how bad both were back then out of 10 I would have given them an 8-9 whereas now in 2020 with all the little tips and tools I have put in place I would rate it a 3.


I believe that there were no specific wonder cures that I found over the past 6 years but many little changes that when all pieced together became the medicine that I needed to get better. This is where I got the inspiration for my brand 'The Health Puzzle'. I intend to put many ideas of puzzle pieces (tips/lifestyle changes) onto my website, blog, podcast, Youtube, emails, etc over the coming years and that you and other readers will be able to try them out and see if they work for you. Over time I believe that you will then have a number of puzzle pieces that worked for you which will form your own health puzzle.


In a few years time, I going to be a qualified nutritionist and will be using lifestyle medicine time and time again in my clinic. I look to help others who just like me back in 2014 have a lot of puzzle pieces to find and will assist them in building their own health puzzle.

My health puzzle is not complete and it may never be as I quest to reach the best version of myself. But I am now no longer completely in the dark and have many tools to fall back on when an area of my health needs some support. I feel empowered and supported in a world that demands so much.
