A single-ingredient sodium bicarbonate powder that doubles as a gentle abrasive for sinks, tiles, and surfaces, a deodoriser for carpets, fridges, and bins, and, paired with white vinegar, a fizzing way to keep plug holes and drains clear. I mix it into a mild abrasive paste with a little water to clean my cooker top, where it lifts grime without the scratching or harsh chemicals of conventional scouring creams. It is about as simple and low-tox as a cleaning product gets, with nothing to scrutinise on the ingredient list, and it comes in a plastic-free cardboard box.
